Gallstones are formed in the gallbladder. It is in the pear shape and its function is to collect and store bile.
The fluid present in bile will cholesterol, bile salts, lecithin and bilirubin. Basically, the gallstones are piled
up in the gallbladder due to increase in cholesterol or due to bilirubin. These both are collected at the bottom of
the bladder and result in the formation of stones. Though these are the size of sand grains, they would cause a lot
of pain and discomfort. However, the size could range from minuscule sand particles to gold ball size. With bile washing
over them, it keeps on collecting the extra material. The smaller stones can turn bigger and these also travel during
which they cause blockage.
Various symptoms that you experience when the stones are formed in the gallbladder are:
Acute and sharp pain in the upper right portion of your abdomen.
Intense pain in the abdomen area and below the breastbone.
Severe back pain that too between the blades of the shoulder.
